~Thanks For Your Patience~

Hey everybody!! I'm so sorry I haven't been keeping up with posting very well- I'm on vacation in beautiful northern Indiana right now, and M is in the process of starting her summer vacation, so we've been pretty busy. We'll have some pictures for you very soon!!! :)

Vested Interest

When: 6/27/12
What: *White tee- Walmart *Khaki skirt- thrifted *Denim vest- made from denim jacket *Belt- thrifted *Shoes- Beall's Outlet *Necklace- gift from N from Afghanistan

I know I've been showing outfits from like a month ago, but I'm on vacation right now and I'm using my backlog of outfit pics. Don't worry, though!! I'll share some of my outfits from vacation soon!

I'd been looking for a cute denim vest, but then I remembered that I had this denim jacket that I don't wear very often. I very carefully cut the sleeves off and ta-da- a denim vest. I've been meaning to take it in a little since it's a little too big, but in the meantime, I'll just wear a belt with it!

Nailing it Down

One of the things I keep telling myself I need to try this summer is nail art. I've seen lots of pictures on Pinterest of fun, and seemingly easy, DIY nail ideas. Summer is going by very quickly, so I really need to get on the ball! Here are some the of the cute ideas I've found that I want to try:

A tutorial on how to make cute nail stickers from nail polish and scotch tape-  there are tons of possibilities for designs!

A plaid design made using the nail stickers:

If I try any of these, I'll have to post pictures! If you're interested in more, The Beauty Department has a ton of great nail (and beauty!) ideas!

White Eyelet Skirt

Who: J
When: 6/24/12
Where: Church
What: *Green top- Kohl's *Black scarf- Beall's Outlet *White skirt- thrifted (read about it here) *Belt- Walmart *Shoes- KMart *Pin- Beall's Outlet

I still haven't decided if this top is green or turquoise... maybe teal? On this day, I was singing a special with my friend at church and we decided to wear coordinating colors. So, this day, this top was turquoise(ish)... ;) I actually have this outfit with me while I'm on vacation- that's how much I ended up liking it!

Thrifted Thursday- Tee Time

Hola, everyone! For today's Thrifted Thursday, I wanted to tell you about something that I'm really into right now that fits perfectly with thrifting- T-shirt refashion! Pinterest is full of ideas on great things you can do with tshirts!!

Like this adorable shrug from wobisobi:

Or this fabulous tee with bows on the shoulders from ruby murrays musings:

Or this tee, also from wobisobi, with a ribbon woven through it:

These are just a few of the ideas that people are coming up with that you can do with old (or new!) tees. I've found that at most thrift stores, you can pick up a tee for just a couple of dollars. The men's XL tees that I've bought at Goodwill for projects have only cost me $1 a piece!

One of my favorite t-shirt refashions has been the no-sew vest. It seriously only takes like 2 or 3 minutes, and I love how it fits! I found the tutorial on wobisobi and have already made a couple for myself:

I also made a really cute little braided headband for the Fourth of July using a tutorial for t-shirt necklaces I found on I Still Love You: (please excuse the blurriness!)

There are so many different possibilities!! If you look hard enough, you can find tees in just about any color or pattern for any project you want to try. Right now I'm looking for a camo tee to turn into a cute vest... if I find one, I'll post pics! :)

Happy thrifting!!

Road Trip Necessities

Summer is a such good time for road trips! Do you have specific things you always make sure you take along with you? I thought I'd share a few of my own road trip "necessities" with you:

Is anybody else planning a road trip this summer? What do you always make sure to take along with you? Leave us some comments to let us know!

Happy travels! :)

A While Ago

Who: J
When: 6/13/12
Where: Midweek service at church
What: *Top- Beall's Outlet in Willcox *Skirt- thrifted *Shoes- Payless *Necklace- Tiffany & Co., gift from N *Belt- Walmart

I was going through my camera's memory card, clearing it all out for an upcoming trip and found several outfits I took pictures of, but never posted about. What? I know, I know! How could I deprive the world of the awesomeness that is these outfits? ;) So, I'll be posting some "older" outfit pictures the next few days.

I think these pictures are from an evening when I wasn't feeling all that great. If I remember correctly, I had a HUGE headache from the heat and wasn't feeling so awesome. At least that's what I'm blaming for the slightly glazed look in my eyes... I also remember that I wasn't sure how much I liked the tucked in top with this skirt, but looking at these pictures, it wasn't half bad! ;)

All Dressed In Pink

Who: M
When: 6/30/12
Where: Wedding
What: *Pink and white dress-David's Bridal (was actually a bridesmaid's dress for a wedding I was in 4 years ago) *Shoes-borrowed *Necklace and earrings-Mary Kay prizes *Shirt-Old Navy *Purse-gift

This was a fun day!! I LOVE weddings (maybe one day I will get to love my own wedding... who knows...lol). Somehow, at every wedding that I have been to here in Mexico, I have matched the colors of the wedding. I don't do this on purpose, but this wedding was no exception! Since this was a Saturday, I went visiting for the church in the morning. I knew we would be getting back late, so I did my hair in an uptwist thing (which you can't really see..) so that I would not have to worry how it looked later. The dress I am wearing is one of the few bridesmaid's dresses I have that I have been able to wear on other occasions.

I  had to add a picture of the delicious food, because, well, I LOVE to eat! The wedding was beautiful and the weather was great. I didn't catch the bouquet, so, according to the old tradition, no wedding bells for me this year...;)

Mustard and Ketchup

Who: J
When: 7-10-12
Where: Passing out fliers for our church's Vacation Bible School
What: *Yellow tank- Kmart *Red top- Cato's *Brown skirt- thrifted *Flip flops- Old Navy *Necklace- gift from M (through our jewelry swap) *Glasses- Firmoo

A couple of weeks ago I went to the eye doctor... I've known for a while that I am extremely near sighted in one eye. It hasn't been a problem until recently, when I noticed that the TV is blurry sometimes at night... I'm getting old, I guess! ;) ANYWAY.... I ended up getting glasses for when I feel like my eyes are tired... or when I want to use them as a fashion accessory (my words, not the doctor's). I was able to get a really good deal through firmoo.com and I really like my new spectacles... what do you think?

I also really love this skirt I found at Goodwill a while back- it's very light and flowy. Perfect for summer! I wanted to wear this red shirt, but didn't want to pair it with plain ol' white this time, so I dug around until I found this yellow tank buried way in the back of my dresser. Tada- mustard and ketchup! ;)

Thrifted Thursday- Cover Up Refashion

Thrifted Thursday! Woo hoo! I haven't had a whole lot of time lately to thrift, but I do want to share with you something I found a few weeks ago that I've already worn several times.

I've been looking for a white eyelet skirt, but haven't really found one that I loved. On a recent trip to Goodwill, I found this:

What is it, you ask? I'm not really sure... I think I finally came to the conclusion that it must be some kind of cover-up thing for the beach or something... As you can see, it didn't have a whole lot of shape, and there was no lining. But, there WAS a lot of beautiful white eyelet material. I cut off the top, sewed on some elastic for the waist, lined it with some material from a bed sheet I never used, and I had myself a new white skirt. Love it! I've already worn it several times (see my anniversary post). So for $5.50, and a little time at the sewing machine, I was able to get exactly what I wanted!

Remember to keep an open mind when thrifting- that shapeless dress may be able to be remade into one of your new favorite skirts! (This only applies if you honestly think you'll be able to take the time to remake something- otherwise, it's not a good deal!)

Happy thrifting!

Block It Out

Who: M
When: 7/7/12
Where: Visits for church, Starbucks, and preparing for Sunday's graduation
What: *Red skirt-H&M, $10 *Turquoise shirt-Melodies (in Mexico) $6 *Shoes-Target $12 *Jewelry-$1, *Flower bobby pin-$1 for set of 3 :)

J told me about this month's Everybody Everywear color blocking challenge, so I thought I would give it a whirl! Red and turquoise has recently become one of my favorite color combinations, so that's what I chose . I liked how the outfit looked, although I did get a few stares... not sure if it was the outfit or just my stunning beauty... I am voting for the latter :)

Saturdays here at the orphanage in Mexico are one of my busiest days! Because I work nearly from sun-up to sunset during the week, Saturdays are the days when I do all the "me" stuff that I need to do!! First I go out visiting for the church till about 2. Then off to do whatever my to-do list calls me to do...Sometimes just relaxing at Starbucks, other times running around till I feel like a chicken with my head cut off...but somehow, I always get everything done on my list. This Saturday was particularly fun since I got to go to Starbucks AND do all of my list. One of the things on my list was washing and ironing all the little graduation gowns for my kindergartners!

Head on over to Everybody Everywear and check out all the different ideas for color blocking!

Feelin' Peachy

I just realized that this was a REALLY cheap outfit!! :) FREE!!! My favorite price! One of my good friends gave me this skirt a few months ago and I have been trying to figure out what to wear it with. Then someone gave me the shirt...and voila! An outfit is created...add cute shoes, a belt, and necklace and we are ready to go. And all for free- I need more outfits like this!!  Unfortunately the picture taking was not at its best...but, you can't have everything! :)

Apologies

Hi! I know today is usually Thrifted Thursday, but I've been slacking this week and don't have anything ready... Sorry!!! As I mentioned in my last post, this last week was my 3rd wedding anniversary (yay us!), and that, combined with the Fourth of July, had me doing lots of celebrating and chillaxing, but not much blogging... I hope everybody had a great Fourth of July! I promise that next week, we'll be back in the swing of things. I have a vacation coming up, and a J & M reunion is in the works for later this summer.... exciting!

Anyway.... please accept my apologies for the lack of posts this week, and these pictures of some of what I've been up to as a consolation prize :):
