SpecTACKYlar Christmas Sweaters

So sorry I didn't post anything for Thrifted Thursday yesterday! I'm horrible, I know! BUT, I'm going thrifting today and I'm sure I'll come back with tons of stuff to show you.

One of the main things I'm looking for today is Christmas sweaters... you know, the kind that have cats in Santa hats, or caroling children, or reindeer... those kind! Our ladies' ministry at church is having our "Blinging In The New Year" Christmas party next week and I want to make sure I'm all blinged out and Christmased up!

I love to play around with Polyvore, so I came up with some things that I'm hoping to find and incorporate in to my look.

Tacky Christmas

Don't worry- I'll be sure to post lots of pictures of my final outfit... I bet you can't wait!! ;)

Gobble, Gobble

Who: J
When: 11/22/12, Thanksgiving Day
Where: My parents' house in Willcox, AZ
What: *Cardigan- Walmart *Tee- hmmm... I think maybe Walmart *Skirt- thrifted *Scarf- thrifted *Shoes- Kmart

I have to confess something- when I went to post these, I had a small moment of panic because I COULDN'T FIND MY THANKSGIVING PICTURES!!! They weren't where I thought I had filed them! But, I found them- they just didn't make it in the right folder... phew!! Anyway, here's what I wore for Thanksgiving. I know it's not "traditional" Thanksgiving colors, but my husband wanted to wear a blue shirt, and I wanted to coordinate with him, at least a little, so this is what I came up with. It was actually super comfortable, and I was able to cook, crawl around with my adorable nephew and nieces, and even paper mache'! I did end up having to take the cardigan off because I felt a little warm... which was slightly embarrassing because this tee is VERY well worn (which means it has some holes in it), but it was just family, so who cares, right? ;)

I hope everybody had a happy and safe Thanksgiving- now it's time to plan for Christmas!

P.S. Here's what N wore that I was trying to coordinate with:

Purple Tights

Who: M
When: 11/5/12
Where: Work after school
What: *Denim skirt-Jones New York, thrifted *Shirt-GAP, thrifted *Undershirt-Target *Tights-Walmart, *Shoes-Target *Flower-gift from J :)

Another "cold" day in Mexico!! So I donned my cool tights and took on the cold with gusto!! :) I must say one of the things I miss about living in Indiana is the change in weather with the seasons. I love that it is always warm here, but I miss wearing my sweaters and tights. So whenever it gets even a little chilly, I pull out the tights. When I got to the Murillo's house after school to help out, everything was all decorated for fall- I was so excited!! I wanted to get the decorations in my pics, not sure how that really turned out, but... Also, I took a special picture of my flower cuz, one of my bestest friends (J) gave it to me!!

Thanksgiving outfits

Happy Thanksgiving Eve! :) I love this time of year, so I might as well make as much of every day as possible... which I guess is true for every time of the year!

What is everybody wearing for Thanksgiving dinner? Do you "dress up" some, or is it a pretty casual event? For our family, Thanksgiving dinner was always pretty much just "come as you are." So, some of us liked to try to look nice, some of us wore holey jeans and tees, and the rest were somewhere in between. To be honest, though, I don't really much remember what everybody wore, but I do remember all the crazy things that happen at our family dinners!  For several years, my youngest sister, my cousin, my grandpa and I sat at "the kids' table" while my parents and aunt and uncle sat at the "grownup's table." Guess which one was the loudest and got in the most trouble? ;) Two years ago, my soldier husband was home on R&R from Afghanistan for Thanksgiving so I got to spend some time with him. And of course, there's always all the pie, turkey, potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce... did you notice I mentioned pie first?

Anyway... back to Thanksgiving outfits... I haven't decided what I'm wearing yet... which I should probably get to, since we're leaving for Arizona today. Here's what M and I both wore last year:

I usually try to coordinate my "special occasion" outfits with N so we look cute in pictures (let's be honest, we always look cute... hee hee), I guess I'll wait and see what's he's planning to pack. I'll be sure to post pictures sometime next week.

On a more serious note, make sure that you take time over the next couple of days to be thankful for all the blessings we've been given. I know I often take so many things for granted- family, friends, a warm house, a closet full of clothes, shoes, food, a free country, an amazing husband, a reliable car, and the list goes on and on. I've been so blessed, and most of all, I've been given God's Son and the promise of a home in Heaven. Let's not forget to be grateful for all the blessings in our lives!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all- have a fun, safe, turkey-filled holiday weekend!

Long Sleeves Weather

Who: M
When: 11/3/12
Where: Visiting on the bus route and helping with homework
What: *Khaki skirt-store in downtown Guadalajara (on sale for 2 for 1!!) *Longsleeve shirt-GAP, thrifted *Flowered blouse-Forever 21, gift *Earrings-Charming Charlies *Necklace-Dots *Shoes-borrowed

It is FINALLY starting to cool off here...we actually had like 2 days that only got up to like 65!! :) Funny how, depending on where we are, 65 can be pretty cold or 65 can be pretty hot! For Mexico, 65 is kinda cool, so I decided that I would wear long sleeves. I really love the flowered shirt, but had not worn it before, because I did not know with what to pair it! I think it worked nicely with the green shirt.

A funny story to go along with this post...  I took one of the girls from the children's home with me to the bus route. From the time we left the church, she kept telling me how much her stomach hurt. Then every time someone offered her food, she willingly took it! She must have had a bag of chips, some fruit, and who knows what else!! I finally had to tell her to stop eating because she just would not stop!!

So that was my Saturday...oh, I almost forgot to mention that after doing homework, we watched a pretty neat movie called "The Perfect Game." Then I got in trouble for letting the girls watch a movie...;)

Happy Anniversary to us!!

Hello- J here! So, I know we're a little  a lot late.... but we just wanted to take a moment to celebrate that we've been writing Those Two Crazy girls for a year now... a whole year!!! Woot woot for us!! Thank you so much to everybody who has taken the time to read our little blog, and especially to everyone who has commented. We know everyone has busy lives, so we really appreciate you spending time with us!

I know that writing this has been very educational and lots of fun for me, and I was a little curious about how having our little project to work on has been for M. Here's what she had to say: (I also threw in my own answers, just in case anyone wants to know ;) )

1. Has writing a style blog changed how you dress every day? How?

M: I don't think I have changed how I dress so much since beginning the blog. I will say it has made me infinitely more aware of what I spend on clothes and where my clothes come from.

J: I think what having Those Two Crazy Girls has done for me is made me feel more confident about my choices. I used to worry a lot about if I "could" wear something, or if it was "cool" enough, but now, I've kind of developed the attitude of "If I think it's cool, then, yeah, it's cool!"  This has led to me having a few more slightly "off" outfits, but I've tried a lot of new things, as well!
2. What things have you learned or tried as a result of writing Those Two Crazy Girls?

M: I have to be completely honest, before I started this blog with J, I almost NEVER read any blogs, much less fashion blogs! :) So that being out in the open, I have learned lots of fashion words like color blocking and the such. I have tried new color combinations and taken TONS of pictures!

J: I've learned a lot about the design side of blogging- backgrounds, layouts, etc. It's been a lot of fun learning how to do new things like that. From a style aspect, I've tried new color combos and figured out more about my own style. I've also discovered a love for thrifting- before it was something that I could take or leave, but now, I love it- in fact, I hardly buy clothes new at all anymore.
3. What's the best part about writing our blog?

M: Hearing from people who are reading the blog!! Also, getting to "spend" time with my bestie J is a definite plus!!!

J: I definitely love having a project to work on with M- I think this one is turning out better than our homemade- without a recipe- funnel cake! ;) I also am enjoying getting to use my creativity and forcing myself to learn new stuff and step out of my comfort zone.

So, there you have it! If you'd like a little blast from the past, be sure to check out our very first posts here and here. Thanks for joining us on this adventure, and here's to many more to come! :)

P.S. As a fun little extra, here are some things that I worked on for the blog way back when we first started. I wanted some little people that looked like us for the header, and here are some different versions I came up with:

So A"maze"ing!

Who: J
When: 10/18/12
Where: La Union Corn Maze
What: *Scarf- made by my momma *Green tee- Walmart *Denim skirt- thrifted & shortened *Tights- Walmart (?) *Boots- Ariat

Oh my goodness! I can't believe I forget to post these! Maybe I was trying to forget our terror-filled night of being lost in the corn maze... in the dark... with no idea where we were on the map... and so we had to be rescued by the owner... because everyone else had left... and he wanted to go home... yep, that really happened to us! In our defense, the first time we went through, we made it with no problems... but then we tried it after dark, and took some "shortcuts"... yeah, not a good idea... We had tons of fun, though, and all of our adventures definitely will make for some great memories! Hmmm... I just realized that these boots are still covered in dust from tromping all over the maze... I should probably get those cleaned off...

The corn maze is closed for the year, but you can still check out their website: La Union Maze.

Also, I know I'm posting super late at night (well, late for me) but I had a crazy busy day and wanted to make sure we got in on the Everybody Everywear boots challenge today- head on over and check them out!

Here are a few more pics from the corn maze:

N and I before we got lost....

A view of the maze from a bridge in the middle... and no, being elevated did NOT help us find our way out...

Time Change

Who: J
When: 11/4/12
Where: Church
What: *Dress- thrifted *Sweater- thrifted *Tank- Target *Belt- gift from sister *Shoes- Payless *Purse- gift from sister *Necklace- Walmart

Time for time change!! I grew up in Arizona, where we don't have any such thing, so it's still a little weird for me... I do like the fall time change, but the spring one, not so much! It was nice to get a little extra sleep, though!

I bought this dress a few years ago at Twice as Nice in Sierra Vista, AZ. I originally bought it to wear to sing in a friend's wedding (actually, it was M's little sister!), but I just now thought to pair it with brown... duh! I like that it's fall-ish without being the usual orange and brown... which I love- I'm just always looking for new ways to wear colors. :)

Ok, now I have a little confession and a couple of funny pictures... I have very sensitive eyes and I can't really go without sunglasses outside or I'll squint so hard my eyeballs disappear. So, I've been trying to do this thing where I take my sunnies off, but close my eyes while N (my photographer most of the time) counts to three. The idea is that on the count of three, I'll open my eyes, he'll snap the pic, and everything will be hunky-dorey. But sometimes, I can't get my facial expression right and it turns out more like these:

See how I just look irritated in this one? I opened my eyes but forgot to smile....

And in this one, I think I just look goofy. My smile looks like I'm about to do a crazy laugh... hard to describe, but if you know me, you know what I'm talking about. ;) At least the light is good in this one! ;)

I'll keep working on my facial coordination :).

Thrifted Thursday- Christmas Shopping

Good morning and Happy Thursday! How is everybody doing? I don't know about you, but for me, this first week of November has flown by... it will be Thanksgiving before we know it! Also, the one year anniversary of our blog was yesterday- congratulations to us!!! We'll have more on that later, though ;).

As you may know, I've been collecting some things to send with M to Mexico for the kiddos at the orphanage where she works. Yesterday, I found several great little dresses and some pants at Goodwill, so I thought I'd show you what I've collected so far:

So cute, right? And all of that together has cost me around $10... that's a lot of clothes for just $10! I love shopping for children's clothing! It's so cute & so fun! My secret is that I only look for the stuff that's marked half off, that way, I can get more bang for my buck and get as much clothing as I can to send with M. I'm having so much fun shopping for the kiddos, and I hope they love the stuff I've picked out. And the offer is always open for anyone else to send some things along with me- just let me know! :)

Oh, and how cute is that little clip-on tie? I love it!!

I was also able to pick up a couple of books at Goodwill. Two of them are actually Christmas presents for my husband so I won't show them, but I will say that one of them is a book I wanted to buy a couple of years ago when it first came out and it was $27... and I got it for $2.99... score! ;)

I've been looking for a "How to Draw" book for an art kit I'm making for one of my nephews, and I found this one for $1 yesterday. It's pretty cool- I just wish I could draw at all! :)

All in all, it was a pretty successful day out thrifting! ;) I was able to get 4 girl's dresses, 2 pair of boy's pants, a boy's polo shirt, a clip on tie, and 3 books for about $15. I love thrifting! :)

Happy thrifting!

Calm Tuesday

Who: M
When: 10/30/12
Where: School...and Starbucks!!!
What: *Skirt-NY&C, thrifted *Shirt-NY&C from about 6 years ago *Necklace, earrings, bracelet-dollar store (seriously!) *Shoes-Mexico county fair *Undershirt-Old Navy, thrifted *Flower headband-borrowed

So, I know this looks more like the Fourth of July than Halloween, but...The weather here is still extremely warm! I really just wanted to wear my cool red shoes again. The undershirt is actually turquoise, which paired with red is my favorite color cambo right now. Also, as you can see, since I wear it so much, this maxi skirt is one of my favorites. No, I do not wear it everyday, but it does seem like I have posted about it A LOT- I love it!!

I must say that today was a nice change from the craziness of Monday!! Too many crazy things to tell...Let's just say that my day started out with a girl with a piece of crayon in her nose and ended with a boy telling me the wise men brought murder to Jesus as a gift when he was born...I know he meant myrrh, but it was funny none the less!

The Poof

Who: J
When: 10/28/12
Where: Church
What: *Dress- Old Navy, thrifted *Cardigan- Walmart *Tank- Target *Boots- Sears *Necklace- Beall's Outlet *Flower pin- The Jewelry Box

The last few weeks, I've been trying to let my hair just do its own naturally wavy/ curly thing. Sometimes, I love how it turns out. Sometimes, not so much. This Sunday was one of the not so much times. My bangs looked really weird (to me), so I swept them up and back into "the poof." I'm not sure how much I actually like it, but it's what happened that day, so, what am I gonna do? ;)

I wear this dress a lot. Like, a lot a lot. I've only shown it a couple of times on here (here and here), but I wear it a lot- like at least once a month! It's definitely one of my favorite thrifting finds- it doesn't need to ironed, it works in summer and winter, there are lots of different colors it can be combined with, the shape is flattering on me (at least I think so), and it was only like $7!

I know I keep saying it, but I'm excited for fall to be here- I love breaking out all my boots and cardigans! :)

Thrifted Thursday- Furry Friends

Can you believe it's already November? Crazy, right? The Thanksgiving/ Christmas season is really one of my favorites, so I'm really excited about everything that's coming up. I love this time of year!

Today, I wanted to show you some furry friends that I found while thrifting in the last couple of months. One of my nieces has a HUGE Build A Bear collection that's been built mostly from thrift finds. My mother in law always finds the best deals! So, lately, I've been keeping an eye out for Build A Bears and I've actually found quite a few. Last year, I found 2 groundhogs (which were limited editions!) and a camo bear, and just recently, I found a turtle, and elephant, and a patriotic bear- the last two with outfits! If you've ever bought one of these puppies brand new, you know they can cost some serious buckaroos, so I've been thrilled to find them at thrift stores. I do have some criteria I follow, though- they can't have any stains, or look "scraggly," or smell... definitely no smells!! And I always wash them when I get home. After I bought the first one, I googled different methods on how to clean them, and this is what I came up with that worked for me- I tied them in pillow cases and ran them through the delicate cycle, and then low heat in the dryer just to get them a little less sopping wet, and then sat them out on a counter in the sun to dry. I even put one with a voicebox (that I didn't know it had) through the wash and it came out fine.

I have given thrifted Build A Bears as gifts, but only to people I knew would be ok with it. And, I will say, I gave them to kiddos who were old enough to not put them in their mouth or chew on them. I think I'd be a little icked out to pass along thrifted stuffed animals if there were a chance someone might try to snack on them...

Anyways... these are my most recent finds. And they were all under $4!! Even the ones with the clothes!

Happy thrifting!
