Easter Sunday (A Little Late)

Easter Sunday!! Growing up, Easter Sunday meant new shoes, new dress, and egg dying and hunting! So many fun memories! I actually still have a teddy bear somewhere from an egg hunting days! At the age of 6, I learned and understood the real meaning of Easter-the day that Jesus rose from the grave!! At age 6, I realized that Jesus died for me but did not stay dead!! He arose and is now preparing a place for me!! I am still amazed that God would do all that just for me, because He loves me!! When I realized all of this, I accepted by faith that Jesus is the only way to Heaven, and that He wants me to go there! I decided that I wanted to trust Him to take me to Heaven! The BEST decision I ever made! So grateful for the love of God!!

Now on to more trivial matters... The dress in this post was one of the many things David purchased for me on my trip to the US! When we went out shopping, I must have tried on like 12 dresses!! As soon as David saw this dress, he says, "Definitely getting that one!" We wound up with 3 dresses, but David wanted me to wear the green one for church! Only one small problem, I had NO idea what shoes I to wear!! Luckily, I remembered about these cute sandals...even more luckily that my mom had not given them away!! And the best of all that the weather was cooperating so I could wear sandals!!

Also...adding a picture of my handsome boyfriend cutting the delicious ice cream cake for dessert!

New Navy

For some reason, I've never been a big wearer of navy blue. I think it's a gorgeous color, but I've always stuck to browns or blacks or greys for my neutrals... BUT, this summer, I'm going to make myself wear more navy! It's perfect for color blocking because it's a little bit of color, but still a "neutral," it's an absolute necessity for the nautical looks I've been wanting to try, and I could probably find a ton of stuff at thrift stores... so, what's not to love? It's about time I jumped aboard this ship (get it? Navy... ship... hardy har)!

We are part of an affiliate program with Shabby Apple, and they have a new collection out called "The Block" that has tons of pieces to mix and match for a color blocked look.  And, wouldn't you know it, several of the pieces are navy! Yay! Here are a few of the beautiful pieces in their new collection:

Be sure to check out all of the other great pieces from Shabby Apple- especially their new swimwear- beautiful!!

Gym Dandy

Ok, before you see the following pictures, you have to promise not to laugh... or be horrified... or be jealous (I'm being sarcastic on that one). A while back, I posted about my resolution to get in better shape, and I talked about what I wear to the gym. In that post, I hinted that I might take some pictures of one of my gym outfits and post them here. Please keep in mind that in these pics, I have no make- up on, and fashion is not my first priority when I'm working out. I just want to show you that you can work out and still be modest, and not look like a total doofus (at least I hope I don't!). So please be kind! ;)

Who: J
When: 4/26/12
Where: The gym
What: *Purple tee- Kohl's in Florida *Brown shorts- Target, on sale for $3!! *Tennies- New Balance, DSW, on sale for $30 *Wristlet- Mary Kay *Sunglasses- Dollar General

So there you have it... what I look like when I work out. I try to pick t-shirts that are looser so I can move better. I used to borrow N's tees all the time, but the necks on his are higher and ride up and choke me (ok, fine, so technically I'm not "choking," but it's annoying). I always keep an eye out for men's basketball or board shorts that are long enough to go to my knees, and then buy them a couple of sizes too big. Most shorts have a drawstring waist so I can just cinch in the waist but still have them be loose through the rest of the shorts. I bought these New Balance shoes at a DSW a couple of years ago... I think it's probably time for a new pair. I love that New Balance has shoes that you can customize with your own color combos online-check it out! I don't think I'll be shelling out that kind of money for running shoes, though... I'll probably head over to the factory outlet here in El Paso and pick up a pair for a lot cheaper. And that's about it- comfy, modest, and I hope, not too frumpy!

Red On Yellow

What: *White shirt-Khol's $9 *Yellow tank top-Walmart $3 *Denim skirt-thrifted *Shoes-Mudd, thrifted *Necklace-gift *Purse-Coach, a gift to myself :)

Another fun filled day of eating and shopping while I was home! The amazing thing is since I have been back in Mexico everybody keeps asking me if I have lost weight...lol.  This day started off right with a trip to Starbucks and then breakfast at a fantastic diner called Egg on your Face. Then, out to the outlet malls, where once again I shopped until I dropped...and David just dropped the money...teasing! I only got a pair of shoes and a dress... and only because David really loved them!! This is the advantage of trying on clothes and modeling them for your boyfriend...hee hee :)

As for my outfit, I LOVE this shade of yellow... but, I'm not sure I will wear this particular tank again since my brother told me I looked like I was pregnant...or I could just save it to wear when I am pregnant (which will not be for a VERY long time!!) Oh, and for anyone who might be thinking that my red purse does not "go with my outfit," Coach happens to match with everything! At least, that is what I think. ;)

Tucker Top

What: *Green tee- thrifted *Turquoise tank- Target *Skirt- made by me *Shoes- Cato *Bag- Kathy Van Zeeland, thrifted ($2!!) *Necklace- Walmart *Ring- The Jewelry Box *Belt- Walmart

I was really unsure about this outfit because I don't usually tuck my tops in... when I made this skirt, I "borrowed" (ok, fine, STOLE) the waistband off of another skirt I never wear. I figured that it was ok that the waistband was black because it would never show. But, when it was all said and done, I kind of liked how the black against the bright colors made the colors pop even more. So I had to try the black waist against the spring-y colors! I'm still not too sure if I like it or not.... maybe I'll try it again sometime!

Shop 'Til You Drop

Where: Soulwinning, lunch, and SHOPPING :)
What: *Khaki skirt-Bass $15 *Black shirt-thrifted $2 *Red tights-Walmart, $4.50 *Red shoes-Mexico $20 *Necklace-$1

So if you asked me what my three favorite things to do are, I will answer "Eat, shop, and go soulwinning!!"  So, as you can see, this was the perfect Thursday for me since I got to do all three of these things, and I got to do them with some of my favorite people: my wonderful mom and my AWESOME boyfriend, David! The dresses that I am holding in my picture are just some of the things he bought me while I was in the States.

The day started out with soulwinning with my mom- what a privilege to go share the Good News with my mom!! Unfortunately, it was slightly colder than I was prepared for, but as long as I stayed in the sun, I was good. :) Then off to lunch and shopping with my mom and David. Shopping is fun, but shopping with someone who is going to pay for all your stuff is so MUCH more fun!! :) David really spoiled me. He told me he wanted to buy me a dress for Easter Sunday, but I wound up with three dresses...lol

Just to say a quick word about my outfit, I think one of my new favorite color combos is black, red, and khaki... BUT, this was not a wise outfit to wear for trying things on because the black tights just did not work with most of the spring colors! Oh well, gotta leave something for the imagination, right? :)

I promise that I ironed this skirt... really! I did! There were just a few wrinkles that WOULD NOT COME OUT!! Grrrr...  Anyway... I mentioned in a previous post that I'm trying to "snazz up" my usual summer uniform of tees and denim skirts. Here, I added a necklace from M & "nicer" sandals (not flip flops) to try to make it look a little more like I actually care ;). But, you'll probably also see lots of pics this summer where I'm just wearing a tee, a denim skirt, and flip flops... Hey, it works for me! :)

What: *Paisley dress-Ross $10 *Grey belt-Ross $5 *Grey tights-Walmart $3 *Undershirt-Walmart $5 *Grey shoes-GAP, gift *Necklace-gift *Bracelet-$2 *Flower-borrowed

What an AWESOME day!!! I was able to spend the entire day with David! We went to Chicago to visit his church bus route. I really enjoyed meeting so many of the people that he has invested time in and hearing how much they all love David! Let me just say, that I had already decided that I liked David a lot, but I was happy to find out that he was as awesome in person as he seemed to be by phone! Oh, and to my outfit...Well, since I live in Mexico and it is ALWAYS hot here, most of my clothes are not designed for cold weather. David had mentioned that he really like this dress from an earlier post, so I wanted to wear it. I added the tights to ward off the cold, which thankfully was not extreme! The final touch of a light sweater completed the outfit and kept me warm :)

D-I-Y Necklace

Where: Evening service at church
What: *Denim jacket- Ross *White top- Walmart *Red linen skirt- gift from friend in college *Black falts- Payless *Bag- Kathy Van Zeeland, Mary Kay prize *Necklace- made by me

Have you ever had an idea in your head of the "perfect" piece of jewelry.... or shoes... or belt... or bag... to go with a certain outfit, and then you either can't find it, or you don't want to pay a bunch of money for it? That's how this necklace came about. I really wanted a black and white necklace for the outfit I wore on Sunday morning, but I couldn't find one I liked for a price I wanted to pay... sooooo... I put a bunch of necklaces together and fastened them to a ribbon. I really like how it turned out! I have a tutorial planned for the very near future, so check back and see how I put it all together.

On another note, I found out this skirt had a hole under the zipper opening... AFTER I got to church... lovely, right? Oh well, I just kept my shirt pulled down over it! ;)

Summer Is On Its Way!

What: *Orange top- Old Navy *Denim skirt- Old Navy *Turquoise scarf- Walmart *Turquoise flip- flops- Walmart

Something that I'm quickly learning about El Paso is that I need to be prepared for all types of weather at any time of year... this last week, it's been all the way up to 80... and all the way down to 45 (I think there's actually been a bigger swing than that, but those are temperatures that I actually saw on my car thermometer). This was obviously one of the warmer days. A denim skirt, a tee, and flip- flops are kind of my unofficial uniform of summer, but this year, I'm really going to try to make things a little more "snazzy" with accessories, jewelry, etc. We'll see how that goes... ;) Also, every year, I say that I'm not going to wear flip flops so much, but I can't help myself! I love them!

Wind In My Hair

As you may be able to tell, it was a little windy on the evening that we took these pictures. So, my hair was blowing across my face... and getting stuck in my lip gloss... fun, right? Oh well, it makes for a cool picture! I like this white jacket as a lightweight layering option, but sometimes I struggle with how sheer the sleeves are. You can see the sleeves of the top underneath and sometimes I don't like how that looks... but, I just cuffed and pushed the sleeves up and I think it turned out ok!

I'm finally getting around to posting my Easter outfit. I usually get a new dress or outfit every year for  Easter, but I had this dress that I had only worn once, and never since we've moved to El Paso, so I thought I'd save some money and just wear what I already had. I love the colors of this dress- so springy & one of my favorite color combos. I should try to wear this at least one more time before spring is over!

No Pain, No Gain!

One of my New Year's resolutions was to get healthier... I know, I know, that's kind of vague, but I do actually have specific goals to help me accomplish that: eat fruits and veggies with at least 2 meals per day, go to the gym (or workout) at least 3 times per week, and lose a certain amount of weight. I have good weeks and bad weeks, but for the most part, I'm not doing too bad! And, I've lost 10 pounds! What's even better is that I feel stronger- last night, I went for a "run" with my husband and our dog (I say "run" because I can still only run short distances at a time and I have to take breaks in between) and N was impressed by how long I could run (which is not that long at all, but waaaay longer than before I started working out) and how quickly I recovered and caught my breath... so, yay me! ;)

I know that working out doesn't really require you to look glamorous, and believe me, I do NOT look glamorous when I go to the gym, but I still like to be covered up! I don't think the world needs to see things hanging out or squeezed into something just because I'm going to the gym. Soooo... I thought I'd share what I wear when I work out. Maybe someday I'll get brave and take a picture of myself on the way to the gym... then again, maybe not! ;) These aren't the EXACT things I wear (or take with me), but pretty close! I do think I need to get a wristlet that's as cute as the one below- that will inspire me to work out harder, I think! ;)

Pop of Preppy Pastel

What: *Black top- store at mall (I can't remember the name!) *Grey jacket- Cato's *Pink argyle skirt- made from a Tommy Hilfiger bed sheet *Shoes- Cato's *Necklace- The Jewelry Box *Purse- Nine West, Ross *Flower headband- Charming Charlie's

This wasn't my "official" Easter outfit (I'll post pictures of that later), but I DID wear it on Easter... so maybe it can be "Easter Outfit Part II." I didn't feel like wearing the same dress Sunday night that I wore that morning, but I still wanted something spring-y and light, so I decided on this pink skirt. This skirt/ top/ sweater combo was actually like the 3rd or 4th combo I tried, and I like the black, grey, and pink together... I might actually wear this one again!! I had forgotten how much I love this argyle print... very fun!

SO I decided to take some chillaxing pictures in my classroom. I might add that I don't usually lounge around on the desks at school...lol Most of the items in this outfit you have seen once or twice already, but David, the awesome guy I am in a relationship with, really likes the red vest, so I thought I would do another post with it!

I LOVE this black skirt. One of my friends gave it to me (she bought it and it didn't fit her...sad for her, happy for me...lol) I am so blessed to have awesome friends. These pics were taken by one of the girls in the children's home where I work. It was a fun time...even though she took like 15 pictures in order to get these 5...lol. GOtta love teenagers :)
